Day 1. Boarding our private transport we make our way
from Ollantytambo (2860m) 22km to the Abra de Malaga (4330m) and the
spectacular mountain called Veronica. From here it is downhill all the
way a whole 80kms for those that can keep up the pace, by bike, we pass
through small jungle farms and plantations with the temperature and speed
ever increasing. Our rest place for the night the bustling market town
of Quillabamba (1020m) where we have a free night.
Day 2. Today we jump on our bikes again for some more
downhill to the town of Palma Real (760m). Using jungle roads passing
coffee farms, mango plantations and avocado we cycle about 60kms through
some of the most beautiful and fast road cycling in Peru. We spend the
night camping in Palma Real.
Day 3. Our last day of cycling, we continue downwards
another 60kms through the ever thickening jungle and dusty roads. Passing
through many small towns and villages to the end of the road and the
village of Ivochote (520m). Here we will camp for the night on the banks
of the river.
Day 4. Boarding our motorized canoe for the last part
of our journey through the magical Pongo de Mainique, where we will have
the opportunity to admire the beauty of this truly spiritual area.
Upon leaving the Pongo we will make our way to the Esperanza Campsite
our home for the next few days. Afternoon free to relax or if you are
feeling up to it volunteer.
Day 5. An early rise so that we may visit a
Cock of the Rock feeding area that is situated near the camsite. On our
return we will have breakfast and a guided tour of the various plantations
that make up our jungle centre. For those that want we will take to the
jungle trails these are fun to run through but also to see the incredible
scenery, to learn about the indigenous plants and animals in the area.
If you are staying at camp you can relax in a hammock and watch the world
go by. All meals will be served at camp.
