Choquequiro or the cradle of gold is known as the sister site of Machu
Picchu. A 60km hike through the Andes with spectacular views and a fascinating
history. Guides passionate about flora, fauna and history will help to
unravel the mysteries surrounding the archaeological site.
Please note that our service is complete, you are not required
to carry your equipment and will be provided with duffel bags to
store clothing etc. You will be expected to carry your day pack
with water, rain gear, camera etc.
Pool service available at $640US, €460EURO
or £320GBP – this includes the 2007 entrance fee of
$5US however there is a possibility that the INC may increase price
in 2008, this increase is not included. This includes private transport.
In public transport the price is $550US, €400EURO or £280GBP.

Day 1. Leaving Cuzco early in the morning for the five
hour drive to Cachora (2,800ms) and the starting point of the trek. The
equipment is organised and the horsemen will load up the mules. The first
part of the trek is approx 2 hours to Capuliyoc (2,900ms) where the first
views of the snow covered mountains of Wayna Cachora and Padrayoc are
available.
The road begins to descend and the flora and fauna change
arriving towards the campsite at Chiquisca. (1700ms). Walking approx
6 hours total.

Day 2. The hardest of the 5 days as the assent is some
1,500ms to the pass. The walk although rigorous is delightful; many orchids
are in the area. Today we will visit the farm of Rosalina and see many
varieties of cacti. We have our first view of Choquiquirao at our campsite.
Evening free to relax.

Day 3. A full day to discover the enormous ruins of
Choquequirao. For the morning a full guided tour with your bilingual
guide who will show the most recently discovered areas of the archaeological
site, and the afternoon free to explore. The site is so vast that you
will require most of the day to really discover it. Camping close to
the archaeological site.

Day 4. Descending to the ever present Apurimac and
the constant altitudinal changes allow sites of waterfalls, birds, butterflies
and the ever changing flora and fauna. After passing the Apurimac we
make our way back towards Chiquisca the descent somewhat easier than

Day 5. The walking is vigorous today to return us to
Cachora. Around 3 hours of ascent and 2 hours of undulating terrain to
Cachora where we leave our horses and horsemen behind. After an early
lunch our return trip to Cusco. The return to Cusco in private vehicle
for 5 hours or public transport.
