Homestay in Racchi, Peru
Day 1. The Sistine Chapel of South America and Racchi
On route to Racchi and our homestay we will visitTipon, Pikkillaqta and Andahuaylillas lesser visited sites on the normal tourist route.Tipon is a stunning example of Inka engineering used as a temple to water and agriculture.
Pikillaqta meaning flea town is a pre inka or Wati site. It was built around 800 years before Inka sites and is one of the few ruins in the area built of adobe.
Discribed as “The Sistine Chapel of South America” this stunning 17th century chapel is situated in a small town south of Cusco. If you are lucky you may even experience the organ being played.
We will continue along the high plains until we reach the little visited town of Racchi and our homestay family.
After getting settled in we will be served a delicious home made dinner before a night of music and dancing with the local people.
Day 2. Volcano´s and ceramics class
Today is a fun filled day with a 2 hour trek to the local extinct volcano where we can see the 3 peaks and have a beautiful view of the high plains of the Andes and of course the wonderful archeological site of Racchi. After returning we have a yummy lunch and then we partake in a cermaics demonstration were we have the opportunity to throw our own pot.
Int he evening we have dinner with our family.
Day 3. The Palace of the Creator
After breakfast and farewell to our host family we head to the main square of Racchi were we begin with a visit to the most charming of little churches where we may climb up the bell tower.
We then continue on to the archeological site of Racchi adn the Temple of Wiracocha. An amazing site set in an enormous area. The site includes the temple, the inca baths and some very odd round buildings.
Mid morning we make our way back to Cusco or if you like we can head onwards to Puno and another homestay.
