Lares 5 Dias/4 Noches
DAY 1: CUSCO – CANCHA CANCHA
We´ll leave the city of Cusco at 7:00 a.m., to go to the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the locality of Huarán which is the starting point of our trek.
In the course of this first day, we´ll walk about 5 hours, following an ascending path, among crop fields, with an abundant vegetation, to reach our campsite, in the community of Cancha Cancha.
DAY 2: CANCHA CANCHA – QUISUARANI
We will leave our camp around 7:30 a.m., to walk uphill to the first mountain pass of the trek, the Abra de Pachacutec (4,400 m.a.s.l./3h.), from which we´ll enjoy awe-inspiring views of glacier lagoons and surrounding valleys. Along the hike, we´ll also contemplate spectacular views of the area´s snow-capped mountains, such as Colquecruz, Minas and Sirijuani. We´ll have lunch after the pass, to then descend to Quisuarani, a small peasant and textile production community, where we´ll set up our second campsite.
DAY 3: QUISUARANI – CUNCANI
Leaving Quisuarani around 7:30 a.m., we´ll follow an uphill path, passing alongside the beautiful Queuñaqocha Lagoon, to head towards the second mountain pass, the Abra de Willkiccasa (4,100 m./2h.), with impressive views on both sides of the pass, and especially, of Mounts Colquecruz and Pitusiray. In the afternoon, we´ll continue on the trail, along changing “puna” (Highlands), with lakes, agricultural areas and roaming deer, for 3 hours, to arrive in Cuncani, where we´ll have dinner and will camp for the night.
DAY 4: CUNCANI – LARES
We´ll leave Cuncani at 8:00 a.m., to walk down a fertile valley, with typical vegetation, crops and agricultural communities. Along the trail, we´ll see native flowers, such as begonias and wild orchids. After about a 2 hour hike, we´ll arrive in Lares, main locality of the district that bears the same name. It is a large village the best attraction of which are its pleasant hot springs, where we´ll enjoy a dip. After lunch, we´ll board a private bus that will take to Ollanta train station.
DAY 5: MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO
We´ll start the day early, with a succulent breakfast, to then board the bus that will take us, on a half hour ride, to the Incan City, where our guide will show us Machupicchu in its real dimension, while we´ll appreciate the harmony between a construction erected with mastership by the Incas and that of one of the world´s most bio-diverse places, surrounded by sacred natural elements, such as the Willkamayu River and the Sacred Mountains or Apus which protect that Wonder of the Modern World.
Once the guided visit concluded, we´ll have a chance to explore the new findings made in the Incan City, and, perhaps, attempt the escalade of Mount Machupicchu, a very special place, from which we´ll be able to appreciate the magnificence of the panorama and understand why the Incas built that city there, in the middle of the mountains. Later on, we´ll board the train that will take us back to the Sacred Valley and, afterwards, to Cusco, where our adventure will get to its end.
